20000 chicken farm layout
The 20000 layer farm project uses A type 4-tier layer cage as the main equipment. The land needed is about 4198 sq ft. The capacity of the simple battery cage is 160 birds/set. To cover the needs of breeding 20,000 layers, 32 sets of cages are arranged in 4 rows with 8 sets per row.
The feeding system includes a spiral feeding pipe and 4 sets of automatic feeding machines. Automatic or semi-automatic options are available for the drinking system and egg-collecting system. The manure is directly dropped into the ditch below chicken cages and is removed by scraper machines. The configuration is flexible and can be adjusted according to the specific requirements of customers.
Chicken house length: Approximately 26 m. The gap space between layer cages is counted, so the estimated length of one A-type 4-tier layer cage is about 2.185 m. One row has 8 sets of cages, so the total length of one row is 2.185 m × 8 = 17.48 m. A layer farming shed commonly has 8 meters of front and back distance. So the total length of the 20,000-chicken farm is 17.48 m + 8 m = 25.48 m (approximately 26 m).
Chicken house width: 15 m. 4 rows of cages have 4 rows of manure ditches. To help clients understand the construction requirements, the layout drawing divides the width of ditches (4 ditches, 2.1 m each) and the width of 5 channels (3 of 1.4 m & 2 of 1.2 m). The total width is 2.1 m × 4 + 1.4 m × 3 + 1.2 m × 2 = 15 m.
Chicken house height: 4 m. The total height of the farm includes the clear height of the 4-tier layer cage, the feeding machines above the cage, the feeding pipe height, and the reserved space to the roof.
4-tier A type layer cage dimension
| Type | Capacity/set | Cage size (cm) | Cell size | Cell capacity | Door | Area/bird (cm2) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A type 4 tiers | 160 birds/set | 215*230*150 | 43*41*41 | 4 birds/cell | 4 doors | 440.75 |

FAQ (frequently asked questions)
Q1. How large should a layer chicken house be for 20,000 birds?
There is no fixed size for a 20,000 birds layer chicken house. The final building dimensions depend on cage type, number of tiers, aisle width, and ventilation design. We calculate the layout based on actual capacity requirements, management efficiency, and future expansion, rather than using standard templates.
Q2. Can the layer poultry farm design be customized for my land and climate?
Yes. Each layer poultry farm design is customized according to land conditions, climate, wind direction, and local infrastructure. This ensures proper ventilation, easy daily management, and stable egg production throughout the year.
Q3. What level of automation is recommended for a 20,000 birds layer farm?
For a 20,000 birds layer farming project, automatic feeding, drinking, and manure removal systems are strongly recommended. Egg collection can be semi-automatic or fully automatic, depending on labor cost and investment budget, allowing a balanced and cost-effective solution.
Q4. How many workers are needed to manage 20,000 layer chickens?
With a properly designed layer chicken house and automated equipment, a 20,000 birds layer farm can usually be managed by 2–4 workers, depending on the automation level and daily management routine.
